Former Manchester City and Sheffield United defender, Kean Bryan, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 27, marking his 27th birthday with this emotional decision. Bryan, who began his journey as a Manchester City academy graduate, faced a career marred by injuries, ultimately leading to his early retirement.
Bryan’s football career took off with a loan spell at Bury FC in 2016, where he made his debut in the English Football League. Over the years, he played for clubs like Oldham Athletic, Sheffield United, and Bolton Wanderers before joining West Bromwich Albion in 2021.
However, Bryan’s career took a significant turn when he suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, sidelining him for nearly 18 months. After the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, his contract with West Bromwich Albion expired, prompting his farewell to the sport.
In an emotional Instagram post, Bryan expressed his gratitude and reflected on his journey from growing up on a council estate in Gorton to achieving his dream of playing in the Premier League and representing some of England’s biggest clubs. He thanked his family, his fiancé, and his two sons for their unwavering support and looked forward to the next chapter of his life.
The football world salutes Kean Bryan for his contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
