Former Premier League player Pascal Chimbonda, known for his spells with Tottenham and Wigan, has stepped into the role of manager at Skelmersdale United, a ninth-tier English football club. Chimbonda’s appointment follows the departure of Matt Potter from the North West Counties League Premier Division side.

Chimbonda, who had a successful playing career in the top flight, expressed his excitement about his new venture into management, citing inspiration from legendary football managers like Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. He stated, “This is a very proud day for me. It is a great honor to become manager of a club with a history as rich as that of Skelmersdale United Football Club.”

The 44-year-old manager is determined to bring an attractive style of football to his new team, aligning himself with the philosophies of esteemed coaches. Chimbonda’s first test in the managerial role will be a Macron Cup clash against Kendal Town.

Skelmersdale United, facing challenges at the bottom of the table, has welcomed Chimbonda as a significant addition to the club. The chairman, Frank Hughes, expressed his excitement about the future, emphasizing the pursuit of a footballing philosophy that their supporters demand.

Chimbonda’s appointment promises an intriguing chapter in the club’s history as they strive to make a turnaround in their current season.
