Funke Akindele, renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker, recently addressed the public misconception regarding her financial status following the blockbuster success of her movie “A Tribe Called Judah (ATCJ)”.

The film grossed over a billion naira at the box office, setting a new benchmark for the Nigerian film industry. This achievement led many to assume that Akindele herself became a billionaire from the movie’s earnings.

Taking to her Instagram, Akindele dispelled these assumptions, clarifying that while the movie grossed a significant amount, she did not take home the billion naira.

Thanks, dear. I’m not a billionaire! My movie *A Tribe Called Judah* grossed over a billion naira. But I didn’t take the billion home o!!! I be confirmed hustler,” she wrote, highlighting her ongoing efforts and dedication to her work.

Akindele’s clarification was in response to a fan’s comment wishing to meet her, under the mistaken belief that she had amassed billions from her movie’s success. Her statement aimed to set the record straight and shed light on the realities of film production finances.

This is not the first time Akindele has addressed misconceptions and criticisms. Earlier, she took to social media to discuss her resilience in the movie industry. In an Instagram story and a post on X app, she spoke about not being defined by any specific category within the industry. Akindele shared her experiences as an underdog who continues to push boundaries in Nigerian cinema, encouraging others not to give up on their dreams. She emphasized that her success is measured not by accolades but by the impact of her stories and the lives she touches.

Akindele’s other films, “Battle On Buka Street” and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga”, are also among the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time, solidifying her status as a leading figure in the Nigerian film industry. Despite her success, Akindele remains grounded, identifying herself as a hustler dedicated to her craft rather than focusing solely on financial gains.
