Nollywood actress and box office queen Funke Akindele has once again captured attention as she unveils her next big project on her 48th birthday.
The award-winning filmmaker shared a video on Instagram, reflecting on her journey while showing behind-the-scenes clips of her past works. She expressed gratitude to God for the grace to keep telling stories and revealed that her new movie, Behind the Scenes, will premiere in December 2025.
Funke described the project as close to her heart, assuring fans that it will be intriguing, captivating, and powerful. She wrote:
“It’s my birthday today, and I feel so fulfilled. I’m graciously grateful to God for the grace to keep telling our stories. I’m using this special day to reveal my blockbuster movie, Behind The Scenes, which premieres in December 2025. Expect something intriguing, captivating, and powerful. This one is very close to my heart, and I can’t wait for you all to experience it. Thank you for always riding with me. The journey continues.”
Funke Akindele continues to reign as the queen of the Nigerian box office. Her 2024 film Everybody Loves Jenifa grossed ₦1.6 billion, making it the highest-grossing film of all time in West Africa and surpassing her own record set by A Tr!be Called Judah, which earned over ₦1.4 billion.
Despite her unmatched work ethic, Funke clarified to fans that she does take time off to rest, after one admirer on Twitter suggested she never slows down. She has also been open about the struggles that shaped her career, recounting how challenges pushed her to stay strong and motivated.
Passionate about filmmaking and directing, Funke admits she is a perfectionist who pays attention to every detail. She often encourages young creatives to embrace the process, reminding them that her own journey wasn’t always easy but was built on resilience and hard work.
