Nigerian media personality Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi has sparked online conversations with her candid take on what it takes to achieve quick wealth and fame in the country.

Taking to Twitter, now X, Gbemi asserted that to gain rapid success in Nigeria, one must forgo home training, shame, or morals. She posed a rhetorical question to her followers, asking if that’s truly the path they aspire to take.

Her tweet read:

“If you want to be rich and famous quickly in this country, you have to lose your home training/shame/morals. Is that the kind you want though?”

Gbemi’s statement resonated with many netizens, who shared their agreement in the comment section:

  • Linasworld247: “She didn’t lie though.”
  • Farmer: “All the shame, morals, schooling, and home training, what has it even brought me?”
  • Princetonbeatz: “Cost of entry, shame in itself is a currency.”
  • Favour_claudius: “If you can’t beat them, you join them.”
  • Betheldavid1994: “They aren’t lying at all. That is Nigeria for you. They have to know you for bad things, not good things.”

Others, however, expressed skepticism, warning against losing one’s values for temporary gains:

  • Lahina_lamir: “In a few years, they will be online begging for money for medical bills and financial aid. No thanks.”

This isn’t the first time Gbemi has shared her thoughts on fame and public behavior. Last year, she disclosed her reasons for avoiding the direct messages (DMs) of wealthy footballers and attractive men. According to Gbemi, her fear of these individuals screenshotting their chats and posting them publicly deterred her from engaging with them.
