Trade Union Congress, TUC, has said that it is not a part of the intended nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and would not engage in any activity to which it is not a party.
Meanwhile, Congress directed President Bola Tinubu to order the importation of food goods from anywhere in the globe within two weeks as a matter of urgency to mitigate the effects of the country’s suffering.
TUC has also accused the International Monetary Fund, the IMF, and the World Bank of being responsible for the country’s high cost of living by advising the removal of subsidies on petroleum products and electricity tariffs, and has urged the government to stop following the two world bodies’ dictates.
These, among other issues, were the focus of TUC President Comrade Festus Osofo’s press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
When asked if the TUC would join its sister union, the NLC, in the protest, Comrade Osifo unequivocally stated that it was not. The TUC made these remarks in recommendations and solutions that it said it would present to the federal government through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“So, it is when you jointly agree, right? That you want to do something. When you agree jointly that is the way to go and along the line you now decided that you are not doing again.
“Comrades, can any of you show us where there is any agreement for us coming together? Whenever we are doing things together you always see us together addressing you. On that particular day, did you see any member of TUC there?” he added.
