Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo popularly known as Omoborty, has shared a powerful message about the pressure to constantly help others—especially in difficult economic times.
Taking to Instagram, the curvy actress poured her heart out in a long and heartfelt post. She warned against the dangers of helping people to the point of personal suffering. According to her,
If you keep helping everybody, one day you’ll be the one who needs help—and they’ll ask what you did with your money.”
To drive her point home, Biodun recounted a recent phone conversation with a fellow entertainer. The colleague told her he no longer opens his Instagram direct messages due to the overwhelming number of help requests—over 560 of them.
Some requests are so heavy, you’d think he owns a bank,” she said. “Honestly, something needs to be done. People are suffering. But still, you can’t help everyone.”
She admitted she’s in a similar situation. Sometimes, she plans to spend on herself but ends up using the money to assist others. That call made her reflect—and reset her boundaries.
“Help, but not at your own detriment,” she warned. “If you respond to every touching story, one day you’ll become one yourself. And the same people clapping now will drag you later.”
The actress emphasized that while empathy is important, it shouldn’t come at the cost of personal survival or that of your children. She prayed for future generations to enjoy the softness and comfort their parents never experienced, but questioned how that would happen if every penny is given away.
In closing, she encouraged her followers to offer help within their means—and not to guilt-trip others who can’t help at a given moment.
Na as the head big reach, na so the headache dey big,”
She added, hoping for wisdom and divine help for everyone trying to stay afloat in tough times.
