Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has bid farewell to his Liverpool teammates as he prepares to make a move to Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, where he will be reunited with former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, now managing the Saudi Pro League side.
The proposed two-year contract with a third-year option is said to more than triple Henderson’s current weekly salary of £200,000.
Before finalizing his decision to leave Liverpool, Henderson sought clarity from manager Jurgen Klopp regarding his potential game time with the Reds in the upcoming season.
After joining the Liverpool squad for their pre-season training camp in Germany, Henderson was notably absent from the opening friendly against Karlsruher, further fueling speculation about his departure.
Following the training camp, Henderson bid farewell to his teammates before heading home to complete the medical and finalize the move to Al Ettifaq.
The final legal details of Henderson’s lucrative new contract with Al Ettifaq are expected to be completed within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is undergoing a midfield rebuild, though it remains unfinished. The club has already added players like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, with strong interest still remaining in Romeo Lavia.
In other transfer news, Thiago Alcantara has also been targeted by Saudi Arabia, while Liverpool has given Fabinho the green light to complete a £40m move to Al Ittihad.
However, Henderson’s proposed move has sparked criticism from Liverpool’s LGBTQI+ fans group, Kop Outs, who tweeted their appreciation for the allyship shown by Jordan Henderson during his time with the club.
