The House of Representatives has passed a bill, in its second reading, seeking to establish the Office of the Prime Minister as head of government and the Office of the President as head of state.
The bill was among 32 constitutional amendment proposals that advanced on Thursday, March 27.
Also included was a bill aimed at reserving specific legislative seats for women in the National Assembly and state houses of assembly.
Another amendment seeks to reduce the time frame for determining pre-election petitions, establish pre-election tribunals, and regulate the suspension of National Assembly members from legislative duties.
Additionally, a bill proposing a review of eligibility requirements for presidential, vice-presidential, gubernatorial, and deputy-gubernatorial candidates progressed.

Further amendments under consideration include a review of the Federal Capital Territory’s status concerning presidential elections and proposals for the creation of Wan State and Gobir State.
So far, 113 constitutional amendment bills, including the creation of the office of the Prime Minister, have passed their second reading in the House.
