World number three Iga Swiatek said her victory at the Cincinnati Open has provided a timely confidence boost as she prepares for the upcoming US Open.
The Polish star secured her first title at the WTA 1000 event with a commanding 7-5, 6-4 win over Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, the tournament’s seventh seed.
Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion, expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I’m happy with the work we’ve been doing and the progress we’ve made. Winning in straight sets is always a good feeling.”
The 24-year-old added, “I’m a good player, and I can compete on any surface,” reinforcing her status as one of the most versatile players on the tour.
The match was a rematch of last year’s French Open final, which Swiatek also won. Paolini started strongly, racing to a 3-0 lead in the opening set before Swiatek responded with five consecutive games to take control.
The second set saw both players exchange breaks, but Swiatek secured the decisive break in the seventh game before closing out the match.
Iga Swiatek’s dominance was evident in her serving, as she fired nine aces compared to Paolini’s none. She also capitalised on all six of her break point opportunities, showcasing her clinical edge in key moments. With this victory, Swiatek has now claimed 11 WTA 1000 titles, putting her just two behind Serena Williams’ record.
The win in Cincinnati extends Swiatek’s momentum following her recent Wimbledon triumph. She now turns her attention to the US Open, where she aims to add a second title at Flushing Meadows to her growing list of achievements.
Also, Iga Swiatek is set to compete in the revamped mixed doubles event alongside Norway’s Casper Ruud, adding another dimension to her US Open campaign.
