IGP Egbetokun fumes over extortion, high-handedness by officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has voiced worry over purported incidences of extortion and high-handedness committed by certain personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

IGP Egbetokun expressed his worries while addressing Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and heads of other formations during the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers in Abuja.

During his statement, the police chief charged top officers with properly supervising the operations of cops at all levels across the nation.

He asked them to guarantee that the police maintain the greatest professional standards, particularly when carrying out their authorized tasks.

The IGP Egbetokun also instructed the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, Complaint Response Unit (CRU), and other disciplinary units to conduct routine inspections of officers’ activity.

Egbetokun also issued a strong warning to cops who exploit his name to extort money from innocent persons.
