In a significant and decisive move aimed at substantially improving the welfare of its workforce, the Imo State Government has officially approved a major increase in the minimum wage for state workers.

The wage has been raised from the previous level of ₦70,000 to a new benchmark of ₦104,000. This announcement was made directly by Governor Hope Uzodimma during a crucial meeting held with the leadership of organised labour unions at the Government House in Owerri, the state capital.

The representatives expressed their satisfaction by breaking into solidarity songs, describing the government’s actions as an unprecedented and historic step towards tangibly improving the economic lives of both active workers and retirees in Imo State.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Uche Chigemezu; the state Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Uchenna Ibe; the state Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Josiah Ugochukwu; and the state Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Barth Echeta.
