The prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) witnessed a night of glitz, glamour and celebration. The film and television industry came together to honour its finest talents. The event reached its pinnacle as iconic actress, Patience Ozokwor received the coveted Industry Merit Award. Her remarkable contributions to the industry span decades and the award is more than well-deserved.
The captivating evening saw two standout productions dominating the awards landscape. Jade Osiberu’s captivating “Brotherhood” took home numerous accolades, including Best Movie in West Africa. Kunle Afolayan’s mesmerizing “Anikulapo” walked away with multiple wins, including Best Indigenous Language Film and Best Soundtrack.
The AMVCA recognized exceptional talent across various genres and categories. Notable winners include Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, who claimed the Best Actor in a Comedy award and the talented Bimbo Ademoye, who received the Best Actress in a Comedy honour for her brilliant performance in “Selina.”
Tobi Bakre’s portrayal in “Brotherhood” earned him the AMVCA Best Actor in a Drama accolade. Osas Ighodaro’s acting in “Man of God” secured her the Best Actress in a Drama award. The awards also celebrated the outstanding supporting actors, with Abdisattar Ahmed winning Best Supporting Actor for his remarkable role in “Gacal.” Efe Irele also took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her captivating performance in “Four Four Forty-Four.”
The creative minds behind the camera were also acknowledged. Loukman Ali won Best Cinematographer for his exceptional work on “Brotherhood,”. Sola Dada also received the Best Writer award for the engaging script of “Anikulapo.”
The AMVCA not only recognized excellence in film but also paid tribute to outstanding television productions.
Yinka Edward’s gripping “Crime & Justice” was crowned Best Television Series. The thought-provoking documentary “Nigeria-the Debut” by Nora Awolowo received the Best Documentary award.
The night concluded with a glamorous display of fashion as Enioluwa Adeoluwa and Beauty Tukura were honoured with the Best Dressed Male and Best Dressed Female awards, respectively, leaving a lasting impression on the red carpet.
