Nollywood actress Ini Edo, known for her private lifestyle, recently opened up about her journey to motherhood on the hit reality show Young Famous and African.
During a candid confessional, the actress revealed that there was no man in her life when she decided to have a child, a decision she had longed for.
Ini admitted that while she never thought she would face fertility issues, she struggled with carrying pregnancies long-term. Realizing that natural conception wasn’t an option, and with time not on her side, she opted for surrogacy as a means to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother.
During her conversation with her co-stars, when asked about her relationship status, Ini confirmed that she was not married, nor was she in a relationship with her child’s father. She revealed,
He’s not dead. He doesn’t have anything to do with us. We’re just two people. Just me and my child.” Ini added, “My journey is one that I have not really been wanting to talk about because it’s personal.”
In her confessional, she shared that her decision to undergo surrogacy was driven by her desire to become a mother despite the challenges she faced with fertility.
When it looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted it to happen and I wasn’t getting younger, I said, ‘What are the options? What is available to me?’” Ini explained. “And then, this option came up, so I took it. I’m very happy with my decision.”
Ini’s decision to embrace surrogacy was first publicly shared in 2021, where she revealed that she used her own eggs in the process, making the baby genetically hers. However, she chose not to disclose the identity of the sperm donor, prioritizing her child’s peace of mind over public curiosity.
In a more personal revelation, Ini discussed her previous marriage to Edo businessman Philip Ehiagwina, which ended in 2014. She confessed that she regretted getting married, acknowledging that it was not the right decision at the time. Despite her past, she remains hopeful about finding the right partner in the future.
In an interview with Toke Makinwa, Ini shared her perspective on being single at 41, revealing that she isn’t looking for much in a potential partner. She stated that she only needs two things from a man, though she did not specify what they were.
