Ini Edo responds to CAN over ‘A Very Detty Christmas’ controversy, addressing concerns from the Christian Association of Nigeria about the title of her new movie.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had criticised the movie title, describing it as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith. CAN argued that Christmas is a sacred season symbolizing purity and redemption, and linking it with the word “detty” diminishes its spiritual significance. The association urged Ini Edo and the producers to reconsider the title and issue a public apology.
In response, Ini Edo took to Instagram to clarify that the title is metaphorical and intended to reflect the story and realities explored in the film. She emphasised that her faith is personal and strong, and she would never knowingly misrepresent or disrespect her religion. “My beautiful people, let’s not be distracted. The film is a masterpiece. Please come out to watch and support your girl,” she wrote.
Ini Edo’s career continues to flourish, with her recent Netflix deal marking a significant milestone despite the challenges it entailed. Her previous movie achievements include bagging 10 nominations at the AMVCA, highlighting her dedication and the impact of her work.
The actress has also been active internationally, sharing her experience at the Red Sea Film Festival alongside Hollywood stars Eva Longoria and Vin Diesel, and engaging audiences with humorous content creation insights alongside fellow actor IK Ogbonna.
