Job Description
Our Client is the largest and only licensed on/off-ramp platform for stablecoins in Africa. They are dedicated to offering innovative solutions in the African stablecoins space. Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for tax authorities across various African countries during tax audits and controversies.
- Develop and execute strategies to efficiently resolve tax disputes and controversies, ensuring compliance with local tax laws.
- Foster positive relationships with tax authorities in African jurisdictions, promoting open communication and proactive dispute resolution.
- Stay abreast of local tax regulations and changes across Africa, providing timely insights to internal stakeholders.
- Identify and assess potential tax risks associated with the company’s operations in Africa.
- Implement proactive measures to mitigate tax risks and strengthen the
- company’s tax position.
- Work closely with internal teams to prepare and provide comprehensive documentation and responses to tax authorities during audits.
- Collaborate with external advisors and legal teams to ensure a robust defence of the company’s tax positions.
- Develop and implement an effective global tax strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives.
- Stay abreast of international tax laws, regulations, and changes, and assess their impact on the organisation.
- Stay abreast of international tax developments related to digital assets and blockchain to assess their impact on the organisation.
- Identify tax planning opportunities to optimise the company’s global tax position.
- Analyse and structure cross-border transactions to minimise tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Manage transfer pricing policies to ensure they align with the company’s business activities and comply with applicable regulations and address the unique challenges and regulations of each jurisdiction.
- Collaborate with finance and legal teams to establish and document intercompany pricing policies in compliance with local requirements
- Assist with transfer pricing audits between the group and revenue authorities.
- Assist with any preparation of in-country transfer pricing returns and support.
- Ensure Group Tax memo’s reflect the actual operational workings and the disclosure in the AFS.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of international tax returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely submission of required documentation.
- Stay current on jurisdiction-specific tax reporting obligations for cryptocurrency transactions
- Identify and assess potential tax risks associated with international operations.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate tax risks and ensure the organisation’s tax positions are defensible.
- Act as the primary liaison with tax authorities during audits related to cryptocurrency transactions.
- Collaborate with external auditors to provide documentation and explanations specific to the tax treatment of digital assets.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and other departments to understand business activities and provide tax guidance.
- Educate internal stakeholders on international tax implications and considerations.
- Contribute to the development of global tax policies and procedures.
- Ensure consistent application of tax policies across the organisation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the international tax function.
- Stay current on industry best practices and recommend enhancements to existing processes.
- Contribute to the development of cryptocurrency-specific tax policies and procedures.
- Ensure consistent application of tax policies across the Group.
- Actively participate in the management of the group tax controversies and transfer pricing policy and strategy project
- Training must be provided to more junior staff both on the job and through monitoring and on the job performance, whilst consistently providing feedback.
- Responsible for coaching and developing junior members of staff
- Gathering information from different sources by using effective research tools.
- Identifying tax issues and use various tools and techniques to provide suggestions on how to solve them
- Adapting to a changing work environment
- Producing accurate work and deliverables to a high technical standard while coaching and mentoring junior staff
- Continuous maintenance and improvement of templates and standard operating procedures.
- Ad-hoc Tax and Finance related assistance on various projects that arise in the ordinary course of business to be dealt with effectively and promptly Assisting all business units across the Group.
- Ad hoc other duties in the finance department with accounting, reporting, preparation of annual financial statements, etc.
Qualification
- Extensive experience in international tax, with a focus on resolving tax controversies in African jurisdictions.
- In-depth knowledge of African tax laws, regulations, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate cultural and regulatory diversity.
- 5+ years experience specialising in Africa Tax Controversy Resolution (with a preference in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Botswana)
- 5+ years experience in a similar/relevant field of group tax reporting and management
- Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CA, CPA, ACCA, CTA) is advantageous
- Postgraduate studies in International Taxation is advantageous
- Strong knowledge of international tax laws, regulations, and transfer pricing principles.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams.
- Ability to travel within Africa as needed.
- Previous experience in Cryptocurrency is advantageous
- Previous experience in FinTech is advantageous
