Being slim comes with some advantages. It is good for your health. You have more energy and improved cognitive function, thus making your work easier You have a low risk of heart disease and improved cardiovascular efficiency. And you most likely have a healthy immune system and a lower risk of developing cancer. You tend to be more active. Slim people can be more active than those who are bigger. Lethargy will not have many chances to creep upon you. You can excel in sports, and you may be more confident in life than those who are bigger.

Myths about being slim

There are a number of myths about being slim that need to be corrected. These myths have deceived slim people into having a superior view of themselves over their plus-sized counterparts.  Here are a few of those:

Being skinny doesn’t necessarily mean you’re healthy

Many people use low body weight to excuse unhealthy eating and physical inactivity. But body weight is not the best indicator of internal well-being. A much better indicator is your diet. When it comes to your health, it’s what’s on the inside that counts and you really are what you eat. Adults who are underweight are at greater risk of dying than others.

Being slim doesn’t make you more attractive

There is a lot of body shaming flying around nowadays. Slim people usually feel they are better off than those with extra weight. They tend to think they are more beautiful than the chubby folks. Well, that’s not true. Your size might have some impact on your overall beauty, but being skinny also doesn’t make you that attractive. There is more to beauty than body mass. Your face should be attractive, and your body shape as well. You can have a nice face and body shape whether you’re slim or fat.

You can’t eat whatever you want

Skinny people, too, are humans and no they can’t eat lots of cakes, pastries, packets of chips and all the junk that you can think of. It is a human body, no matter what shape and size it comes in, and it asks for healthy food at all costs. Even if you are able to eat it without putting on weight, it is still harming your system and increasing your risk of diseases.

You also need to Exercise

No matter what your weight is, exercising is important for everyone, regardless of your weight. Exercise helps make sure that your heart is strong, protecting it from cardiovascular diseases and lowering bad cholesterol.  If you don’t work out, you will not be able to make your bones strong and this can lead to problems like arthritis at a young age. Working out can enhance your sex life and keep blood sugar levels stable. It can keep you energized and help you stay strong.

Being Slim also has its problems.

Do not be too comfortable when you’re slim. Watch yourself. You could be too skinny and that might be a sign you have a problem. Here are some problems you could have if you are too skinny:

Malnutrition

If you are underweight, you may be at greater risk of certain health conditions, including malnutrition. Studies have shown that underweight women have less chance of becoming pregnant than women who are a healthy weight.  If you are underweight, it is important to eat a variety of foods that give you the nutrition you need. This doesn’t mean you should eat junk in an attempt to add weight. If you are having trouble gaining weight, it is best to speak to a doctor to rule out an underlying cause for your underweight. If you have an eating disorder, it is very important to seek treatment from a health professional.

Increased risk of Surgical Complications

Some studies have discovered that underweight people are more likely to develop infections following surgery than people who were not underweight. This is because they might be more likely to heal wounds like people with normal body mass index.

Infertility

Being underweight can reduce fertility and the chance of having a healthy baby. It can lead to hormonal imbalances, problems with ovulation, menstrual disorders, and difficulties with assisted reproduction. In men, there could be hormone problems, problems with erection, and poor sperm production.

If you suspect you’re underweight talk to a professional. Do not panic with assumptions. You can put in the work to gain a few pounds. And remember, being slim doesn’t make you healthier than everyone else.
