Nollywood actress Iyabo OJo has responded strongly to the 500 million Naira defamation lawsuit filed against her by singer Naira Marley.
In a recent Instagram post, Iyabo OJo revealed her intention to counter-sue Naira Marley for a staggering 1 billion Naira. She expressed dismay at the singer’s approach, highlighting the irregularities in the situation.
Iyabo OJo pointed out that Naira Marley chose to announce the legal action online instead of communicating directly with her and her representatives, a move she considers unlawful. Sharing documents from her legal team, OJo emphasized that the letter, bearing her name and address, became public before reaching her, raising concerns about the premature press release.
The main issue in Iyabo OJo’s argument lies in the calculated attempt to tarnish her reputation by releasing the legal notice to the press before delivering it to her. Her legal representatives expressed shock and confusion, hinting at a deliberate effort to damage OJo’s hard-earned standing in the public eye.
This controversy unfolds against the backdrop of Iyabo OJo’s vocal condemnation of Naira Marley and Samlarry following Mohbad’s death. The actress had previously accused Naira Marley of physical abuse towards Mohbad and drugging her children during an event.
In response to Naira Marley’s lawsuit demanding a retraction of her statements and a public apology or a payment of 500 million Naira, Iyabo OJo filed a counterclaim. She is now demanding 1 billion Naira from the singer for deliberately misleading the public. The actress called this move blackmail and expressed her readiness to address the matter through proper legal channels.
Several celebrities, including Tonto Dikeh and Ufuoma McDermott, have shown support for Iyabo OJo amidst this legal battle. Tonto Dikeh expressed solidarity, stating they started together and would end it together, while Ufuoma McDermott praised OJo for her intentional fight for justice and her good heart.
Priscilla Ojo, Iyabo OJo’s daughter, also defended her mother against Naira Marley, pointing out the singer’s unresolved issues with Mohbad’s catalog and unpaid royalties. Paul Okoye, Iyabo OJo’s lover, added his support, emphasizing that his lover’s lawyer would contact Naira Marley to resolve the matter amicably or proceed to the law court.
