Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shared powerful advice to mothers and women about breaking negative generational patterns and speaking blessings into their children’s lives.
During her daughter Priscilla’s baby shower held over the weekend in Canada, the proud mother encouraged women to stop believing that because certain misfortunes happened to their mothers or themselves, it must also happen to their children. Iyabo stressed the importance of breaking ancestral curses through positive declarations.
She said:
“We women must begin to prophesy good things into the lives of our children. Don’t believe that because a certain thing happened to your mum, it happened to you, and it must happen to your children. Break it. There’s something called ancestral curse. You must break and stop it.”
In an emotional moment, Iyabo prayed for her daughter’s marriage, declaring that it would last even though hers didn’t. She told Priscilla that she had already “paid the price” for her to have a happy and long-lasting union.
“Your marriage will work. You’ll grow old with your husband. He will stand by you from your youth until your old age. You’ve married the bones of your bones and flesh of your flesh. If mine didn’t work, yours will work. I’ve paid that sacrifice for you.”
Iyabo Ojo, who was previously married to Ademidun Ojo—the father of her two children—opened up in past interviews about the struggles she faced during her marriage, including experiencing poverty and societal stigma as a single mother. Despite those challenges, she believes her children’s current success is the result of her sacrifices and good deeds.
The baby shower comes after a series of grand wedding celebrations for Priscilla and her husband, Juma, including ceremonies in Tanzania, Nigeria, and a white wedding at a Lagos beachfront.
