The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, announced a new JAMB cut-off score. Apparently, vice-chancellors have agreed on 140 as the minimum benchmark score for the 2023/2024 academic admission session.
This statement was made during the 2023 policy meeting in Abuja. Olojede stated that universities have also been empowered to select individual cut-off grades for their applicants.
However, some institutions have begun to provide cut-off points for their applicants. The University of Jos and the Federal University of Technology offered 180, while the Universities of Ibadan, Benin, and Lagos proposed 200.
The highest standard was 220, set by Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos State. About 15 institutions, mainly in the private sector, proposed lowering the standard to 120. Still, the suggestion was rejected, and a minimum score of 100 was selected as the norm for college admissions to polytechnics and colleges of education.
Meanwhile, Andrew Adejoh, Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, stated, “We have heard the voices of the majority. Most of the universities have agreed and the decision stands that 140 is the minimum benchmark for university admissions.”
