Jason Derulo Condemns Fans Hurling Phones at Artists Onstage

American singer Jason Derulo raised concerns about the dangerous trend of fans throwing objects at artists during performances. Speaking during a book promotion event in New York City, Derulo expressed worry about the safety of performers in such situations.

Derulo expressed his concern about the safety of artists and questioned the motive behind throwing items at them, stating that such behaviour disrespects the artist without benefiting the fans. He attributed the rise in these incidents to fans initially hoping to take photos with their favourite artists using their phones. Still, he noted that it had escalated to throwing phones and other objects onto the stage.

Jason Derulo compared the experience to scenes from “The Matrix” and emphasized the increasing danger it poses to performers. He suggested a safer alternative where fans can pass their phones for a quick photo when an artist approaches the audience. Still, he strongly condemned launching objects onto the stage as unacceptable and potentially harmful.

This discussion arose following an incident involving singer Bebe Rexha, who was struck in the face by a fan’s phone during a performance in mid-June. Rexha suffered a black eye, requiring stitches and a hospital visit. In response, Rexha assured her followers on Instagram that she was okay, sharing a photo with a thumbs-up gesture, showing her black eye. Authorities have arrested a 27-year-old man from New Jersey, charging him with felony assault concerning the incident.
