Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has expressed her frustration over the recent increase in the cost of Nigeria’s international passport.

The Federal Government announced that the price hike, intended to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, will take effect from September 1st, 2024.

Reacting to the news on Twitter, now known as X, Jemima lamented that she should have opted for a 10-year passport instead of considering future name changes due to marriage. Her post highlighted the dilemma many face when deciding on passport validity periods in light of potential life changes.

Me that I should’ve done 10 years passport, I was doing what if I marry. SMH. I still choose this over the name change hassle sha,” Jemima tweeted, indicating that she prefers dealing with the increased cost over the hassle of changing her name on official documents.

Her reaction resonated with many, sparking a flurry of responses from others who regretted not opting for the longer validity period.

One user, Favy Signature, commented, “I regret why I didn’t do 10 years for my kids.”

Another user, Oma Jey, shared a similar sentiment, saying, “That’s why I did only 5 years. I was sha thinking if I marry now, I would have to change again.”

Despite the frustration, some users expressed relief that they had renewed their passports before the price hike. For instance, Dee Glamz_ noted, “The way I’m happy I did this just 2 months ago.”

Jemima Osunde’s concerns are reflective of the broader discontent many Nigerians feel about the rising cost of living and the challenges of navigating bureaucratic processes. Earlier this year, Jemima also voiced her frustrations about the tough living conditions in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for citizens to safeguard their mental, physical, emotional, and financial well-being.

Jemima isn’t alone in her concerns. Other celebrities, including Lizzy Gold, Saidi Balogun, and Alesh Sanni, have also publicly lamented the economic hardships in the country. Lizzy Gold highlighted the soaring cost of petrol and food, while Saidi Balogun questioned the absence of effective price control mechanisms. Alesh Sanni pointed out the exorbitant cost of clearing imported vehicles in Nigeria, comparing it to the relatively low cost of purchasing cars abroad.
