Jonathan Majors, known for his roles in Marvel movies, appeared at a New York City courthouse on June 20 regarding assault and harassment charges from the Manhattan D.A. in March. Judge Rachel S. Pauley scheduled the trial for August 3.
According to Majors’s accuser, he allegedly pulled her finger, twisted her arm behind her back, struck and cut her ear, and pushed her into a vehicle during a confrontation in New York City. The woman, whose name remains undisclosed in court records, received treatment at a hospital for minor head and neck injuries.
However, Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, presented video evidence to prosecutors that allegedly shows the female accuser attacking Majors instead. Chaudhry stated that the evidence includes videos of the accuser’s aggressive behaviour towards Majors and his attempts to distance himself from her. In addition, photographs of Majors’ injuries and torn clothing were provided as evidence of the woman’s violent actions.
Chaudhry has requested the district attorney to dismiss all charges against Majors and initiate proceedings against his accuser, holding her accountable for her alleged crimes. While awaiting a decision, Chaudhry has requested an expedited trial for Jonathan Majors.
Furthermore,
Chaudhry has also accused the police and prosecutors of racial bias against Majors, who is Black. She claimed that a white police officer taunted Majors when he tried to show the officer the injuries he sustained from the woman.
Lastly, the charges against Jonathan Majors have had repercussions on his career, with the U.S. Army removing TV commercials featuring him and Disney postponing the release of his upcoming Marvel film, “Avengers: Kang Dynasty.” Majors will still appear in “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027.
As the trial approaches, Majors, 33, faces charges of assault and misdemeanours, with a potential sentence of up to a year in jail if convicted.
