Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has dismissed rumors of his return to helm Nigeria’s national football team, clarifying that he has not been approached by the Ministry of Sports. Peseiro, who guided the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, emphasized that there has been no contact regarding a possible comeback.
Following the expiration of his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation in February 2024, Peseiro departed his role, leaving the coaching position vacant. The Nigerian football body has since opened applications for the role, with several candidates, including Emmanuel Amunike and Michael Nsien, being linked to the coveted position.
Among the contenders are three European coaches: Danny Bujis, Domenec Torrent, and Toni Conceicao, who have made it to the final shortlist, heightening the anticipation for the announcement of the new Super Eagles coach.
Despite speculations swirling around Peseiro’s potential return, the 63-year-old coach has made it clear that no discussions have taken place with the Ministry of Sports. As Nigeria awaits the appointment of its next football tactician, the coaching vacancy saga continues to intrigue the football community.
