Job Description
Cognosante is seeking an experienced Jr Test Engineer with a strong track record of delivering high-caliber results with high client satisfaction. The successful candidate must be energetic, communicative, intelligent, passionate, and motivated.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with test sites and other team participants to plan test events and create test data
- Creating and running automation test cases
- Tracks problems and reports on errors/issues that are identified
- Create/manage test plans/reports and perform testing such as unit, regression, and smoke testing adequate to ensure the released coding changes meet the requirements
- Triage issues to determine if the problem is traceable to requirements, design, configuration, testing, code defect, documentation deficiency, or knowledge gap, and to determine whether further analysis is required
- Ensure all acceptance criteria are agreed to by stakeholders and are testable and automated to the maximum extent practicable
- Assist in the testing and documentation steps for each part of the testing process
- Evaluate existing test artifacts and design test cases/scripts for new releases independently
- Work closely with the developers, business analyst, scrum master, project manager, and other stakeholders to understand product specifics and to create corresponding test strategies
- Ensure all requirements’ data is under change control and is fully linked to work items that show traceability to design changes, configurable items, test cases, and test results
- Ensure test plans specify the type and scope of testing to be conducted during each product build (for example, unit, functional, accessibility, system, reliability, usability, interoperability, regression, security, and performance)
- Execute testing on both frontend and backend systems
- Participate effectively in estimation, planning, cost-of-quality, and quality risk analysis
- Be an advocate for our VA customer stakeholders and the ultimate beneficiaries of our solution – our Nation’s Veterans
- Develop a keen understanding of program goals and requirements and develop a vision to both meet the customer’s current needs and for the evolution of the program to meet changing client needs
- Collaborate with project leadership and client stakeholders to deliver the project on time, with high quality, and in alignment with the customer’s expectations
- Ensure targets for contractual performance metrics/SLAs are met or exceeded, and provide analysis and communication to ensure appropriate focus on critical attention areas
- Anticipate project challenges and technical risk scenarios
- Identify and execute opportunities for process improvements
- Escalate key issues and recommend solutions to project and client leadership
- Serve as a subject matter expert to ensure the successful implementation of all the project’s solutions
- Understand and comply with Cognos ante’s COMPASS and SDLC methodologies and with the Agile methodology used for the project
- Ensure compliance with client-driven management and development methodologies/standards including VA DevSecOps (DSO) processes
- Develop and deliver internal and client-facing program reviews, status reports, performance reports, and other communications
- Work with VA and Cognosante security leaders to ensure security compliance with the product and project, including supporting evidence, controls, and auditing
- Interact effectively and professionally with clients, stakeholders, partners, sub-contractors, and vendors recognizing you will be the face of Cognosante in many conversations
- Other duties as assigned by project leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or related scientific /technical discipline)
- 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
- 2 years of relevant experience
- Experience in the coordination and execution of test events by approved test plans, procedures, and scripts
- Experience setting up test environments accurately
- Experience in testing IT hardware, software, systems, and networks
- Experience in writing or assisting in the development of test plans and test procedures
- Experience with Jira and GitHub
- Experience with diverse IT projects both large and small
- Well-versed in full systems development life cycle, enterprise-wide network engineering, strategic information planning, business process reengineering, structure, and management practices
- Able to identify and mitigate risks to the program, manage to cost, schedule, and performance
- Candidates that do not meet the required qualifications will not be considered.

- Basic understanding of the healthcare system to include patients, providers, payers, pharmacy, hospitals, and their associated business processes and operations
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Teams, MS Project, GoToMeeting, and SharePoint
- Experience with Jira and GitHub
- Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as required
- Open to occasional travel (~10% to VA and Cognosante locations)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Tier 2/Moderate/MBI clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a CMMI-DEV or CMMI-SVC environment at Maturity Level 3 or above
- International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) Agile Tester Certification or equivalent
- Experience with Selenium, Java, TestNG, Maven, BDD(Cucumber), SQL, API(Postman), Soap AI, Page-Factory, Jenkins, and JAWS or equivalent technologies
- Knowledge of the VA’s health program and systems
- Active VA Tier 2/Moderate/MBI clearance with access to VA systems, PIV, and GFE
