Nollywood veteran Kanayo Kanayo has taken to social media to address what he perceives as a growing culture of entitlement among Nigerians.
In a candid Instagram post, the actor expressed his frustration with the lack of gratitude shown by some individuals when they receive assistance.
Why are people so ungrateful?” Kanayo Kanayo began, visibly exasperated. He recounted instances where he had generously sent money to help others, only to receive curt responses like “seen” in return. He condemned this attitude as reflective of an entitlement mentality, where individuals expect favors as their due rather than appreciating them as acts of kindness.
“It’s not your right,” Kanayo Kanayo emphasized sternly. “Gratitude unspoken is ingratitude spoken.”
The seasoned actor stressed the importance of expressing gratitude for any help received, no matter how small. He argued that a thankful attitude not only acknowledges the generosity of others but also encourages more positive interactions and gestures in the future.
Concurring with Kanayo Kanayo’s sentiment, social media users rallied behind his message. Oluchukwu commented,
Appreciation is the secret of elevation. Show it and watch blessings multiply.” Others echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the magnetic effect of a grateful heart in attracting positivity.
This is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity has spoken out against entitlement. In March, actor Yul Edochie delivered a similar message, reminding his audience that nobody is owed anything and that one’s entitlement is limited to what they earn through their own efforts.
