Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has joined the growing list of Nigerians voicing their frustrations over the country’s worsening economic conditions.

Taking to his Instagram page, the actor shared a TikTok video showing two dogs living a luxurious lifestyle overseas. In the video, the dogs, dressed in pajamas and sleeping on a plush bed, are gently woken up by their owner, who goes on to prepare a lavish breakfast for them.

Reacting to the clip, Kanayo expressed his deep sadness, saying he woke up feeling unhappy after watching how the dogs lived better than many Nigerians. He highlighted how shocking it is that dogs can enjoy such a high standard of living abroad while many Nigerians struggle to meet basic needs like food and shelter. Kanayo even questioned the comparison between being a “human dog” or living in Nigeria, referring to the extreme disparity in living conditions.

In his message to Nigerians, Kanayo shared a prayer of hope, reminding citizens that “this too shall pass” and urging them to stay strong despite the current hardship.

I have been unhappy since morning after seeing this video because of the hunger in Nigeria.
See BINGO with a better bed. Wakey Wakey.
See BINGO with good food. Ordinary Bingo, advanced Ekuke.
How then do you compare living as a human dog or being in Nigeria?
Nigerians, God be with you. THIS TOO SHALL PASS.”

As Nigeria’s economic crisis deepens, many celebrities have voiced their concerns over rising food prices and the cost of living. In July, Caroline Danjuma, the ex-wife of billionaire businessman Musa Danjuma, shared her frustration over the exorbitant prices of foodstuffs at the market. She openly questioned how Nigerians are managing to cope with the escalating costs.

Similarly, actress Nkechi Blessing expressed her shock after spending N150,000 on a few foodstuffs at a Sunday market in Ogba. She lamented that Nigerians seem to be silently enduring the economic crisis, wondering if they had become comfortable with the hardship.

In June, actress Uche Elendu spoke out about the skyrocketing cost of eggs, revealing that a crate of eggs was being sold for N6,000 in her area. She humorously suggested that the government should ban eggs, expressing disbelief at the situation.

Yoruba actress Yewande Adekola Abiodun also lamented the steep price of a bag of Garri, which now costs N80,000. She noted that Garri, once considered a staple for the poor, has become unaffordable for many Nigerians.
