A magistrate’s court in Kano has ordered the remand of popular TikTok personality Abubakar Kilina on charges related to cross-dressing and the dissemination of content described as immoral by the Kano State Censorship Board.
Kilina was arraigned on Tuesday at the No-Man ’s-Land Magistrate Court, where he faced multiple allegations, including cross-dressing, using offensive language, and engaging in behaviour deemed indecent on various social media platforms.
The prosecution, led by Barrister Garzali Maigari Bichi, argued that Kilina’s conduct violated moral and religious values upheld in the state.
Presiding Magistrate Hajiya Halima Wali ordered that Kilina be remanded in custody from June 4 to June 17, 2025, to allow for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Speaking on the matter, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the spokesperson for the Kano State Censorship Board, reiterated the board’s mission to regulate and monitor online content to ensure it aligns with the cultural and ethical norms of the state.
He warned that any individual using digital platforms to promote indecency or immoral behaviour would be prosecuted by the law.
