King Sunny Ade, the legendary Nigerian juju musician, has been declared missing by his daughter Adeniyi Damilola, who claims that her father has been kidnapped by his team and is being forced to work under duress.
Taking to Instagram, Adeniyi raised alarms about the situation, accusing her father’s manager and stepbrother, Dayo Adegeye, of isolating the music icon from his family and exploiting him for financial gain. She alleged that King Sunny Ade’s phone had been unreachable for weeks, and his manager was moving him from one hotel to another, keeping him away from his immediate family and workplace.
According to Adeniyi, the family has been unable to reach King Sunny Ade, and they believe he has been drugged with sleeping pills to keep him subdued while others benefit financially. She further claimed that her father was being coerced into signing contracts for gigs he could not handle, while his finances were being controlled by those around him.
This is not a family feud!!! I got the evidence!! He needs to be with safe people, and I want him out of their reach!! They are stealing from him and not letting him rest even while on medication,” she wrote. She also accused the manager of giving house keys to a family friend to hold, while blocking the immediate family from reaching King Sunny Ade, even during his shows.
The distressing message continued with Adeniyi stating that her father had not been home or at his offices, and that some family members were too scared to speak up about the situation.
I want my dad to get in touch ASAP. My dad has been kidnapped and is working under duress!! The truth shall be revealed!!”
Adeniyi’s post included a call for help from the Nigerian police, urging the authorities to intervene and prevent further exploitation of the music icon. She emphasized that King Sunny Ade should not be booked for any further performances until he is found and restored to safety.
