Federal Polytechnic in Offa, Kwara State has matriculated 11,450 students for the academic session 2022–2023, on Friday. According to the institution’s rector, Dr Kadiri Kamoru, the matriculating students were accepted for full-time and part-time courses leading to the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in the Polytechnic.

Speaking at the occasion, the Rector cautioned the recently admitted Students to follow their chosen fields of study with tenacity, dedication, and discipline to benefit the nation.

According to Kadiri, every student has special abilities, views, and life experiences that Nigeria in particular and the entire world need to tackle various issues.

He stated-

“I want you to note that primarily, the World needs you but more importantly; your country, Nigeria needs you. I strongly believe that each of you has unique gifts, talents, perspectives, and experiences that the World desperately needs. No matter what fields you pursue, you will soon realize that there are problems to solve, injustices to fight, and truths to discover.

“Your knowledge and potential will be required to unlock cures for diseases, create technologies that improve lives and develop the nation, and craft policies that promote freedom and justice. The possibilities are limitless.

“Therefore, I admonish you to pursue your goals with determination, commitment, and discipline. Believe in yourself. I am sure you are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable more than you imagine. When times get tough and challenges seem impossible, draw on your inner strength and perseverance and be rest assured that the Almighty God will help you as you strive to actualize your mission and vision towards achieving your goals in life”.

He further advised the students to utilise the Polytechnic’s resources. Particularly the internet, which he described as a wealth of knowledge on any subject under the Sun.

The Polytechnic’s Entrepreneurial Development Centre (EDC) was also recommended by the Rector to the incoming students. They could also receive training in a variety of small-scale production activities including:

  • soap manufacture
  • cake baking
  • juice production
  • fashion designing
  • computer and phone repair
  • vehicle diagnostics

However, Kadiri cautioned the kids from joining anti-social organisations, adding –

“You are therefore advised to shun all forms of violence, negative social media interactions, Cyberbullying, indecent dressing, prostitution, cultism, yahoo, and other fraud-related activities. The Polytechnic does not tolerate truancy, absenteeism, and other forms of social vices”.
