Kalidou Koulibaly could miss the rest of the season for Chelsea. Frank Lampard said this as Chelsea gets set to face Arsenal on Tuesday.
The Senegal international defender, who joined the Blues for £34 million ($43m) last summer, has picked up an unfortunate hamstring problem.
Mason Mount and Reece James have already been shut down, while Marc Cucurella will be out for two to three weeks.
Interim Blues boss Frank Lampard told reporters when asked for an update on Chelsea’s commanding 31-year-old centre-half:
“Koulibaly is out for a while still. I think it will be a tight call for the end of the season. He’s working away [from the group]. I’ve been impressed with him as a professional, he’s doing his job very well, but unfortunately the injury was a tough one.”
Arsenal also have some injured players. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny are both ruled out for Arsenal after undergoing surgery on knee injuries earlier this year. Furthermore, William Saliba is a major doubt after missing their last six fixtures with a back problem.
Chelsea heads to Emirates Stadium in midweek, seating at 12th on the Premier League table. Having suffered defeat in all five of Lampard’s games at the helm.
