Nollywood actor, producer, and director Kunle Afolayan has voiced his frustration with the growing level of inefficiency in Nigeria. Taking to his Instagram page, the celebrated filmmaker highlighted the irony of job seekers complaining about unemployment, only to perform poorly when given opportunities.
In his heartfelt post, Kunle wrote:
“I am so saddened by the high level of incompetence in our beloved country. A lot of people cry about not having a job, but when they get one, how efficient are they at it? I’m so pissed.”
Kunle’s observations resonated with many of his colleagues, who shared similar experiences in his comment section:
- Biola Bayo: “They’ll apply for jobs, call for an interview and won’t show up. The ones you picked will not resume work, or the one who resumes work doesn’t wanna work.”
- Stephanie Coker: “I spent the whole weekend discussing this.”
- Kiekie: “If you have all the money in this world, you’ll still not get results! The spirit of excellence is zero.”
- Real Funky Mallam: “Unfortunately, a lot aren’t interested in doing the job. They just want quick money.”
Other fans and industry insiders echoed the sentiment, lamenting the lack of dedication, laziness, and the pursuit of quick wealth among some Nigerian youth.
Despite the challenges, Kunle Afolayan has remained a beacon of excellence in the Nigerian film industry. Two years ago, he received an invitation to join the OSCARS voting academy—a significant achievement, especially after one of his movies was previously rejected.
In the same year, Kunle was also conferred with the Officer of the Order of Nigeria (OON), an honor he deeply appreciated.
