An online media platform, Lagos Monitoring Team, presented Wahab Alawiye-King, Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, with the Award of Excellence in Educational Reforms as the first recipient.

According to the organizer, Alawiye-King won the prize because of “his outstanding performance as LASUBEB chairman and the reforms he initiated to reposition primary education in the state.”

Mr Tunde Opeseitan, Editor of LMT, was mentioned in the statement as stating, “Since your emergence as Chairman of LASUBEB, we have observed your passion and tireless commitment towards ensuring that pupils in our schools receive the best education possible.

“It is safe to conclude that you have a knack for excellent service delivery and you have embarked on novel initiatives that have redefined primary education, not only in Lagos, but across the country.”

Under Alawiye-King’s direction, the “EKO Excellence in Child Education and Learning program, popularly known as Eko Excel,” has continued to garner local and global acclaim.

The organizers or the judges recognized the initiative for creating a 21st-century education. That is child-centered and facilitated by current practices and technology.

Alawiye-King received unanimous approval from the Awards Committee.

Alawiye-King congratulated LMT on the honor. Saying it would motivate him to continue working in the best interests of students in state elementary schools.

“Education is seen by us as a powerful tool that can be used to change the world. We believe access, equity, and most importantly quality are some of the things you need. To improve primary education in Nigeria and that is what we have been doing,” the LASUBEB chair said.
