The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit, called Task Force, evicted illicit vendors from the highways, roadsides, curbs and railway lines in various city sections. In response to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s instructions, the agency’s Chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police Shola Jejeloye, supervised the simultaneous operations yesterday. The operations aimed to restore sanity on the walkways, highways, and rail tracks.
Jejeloye revealed that the agency issued multiple warning notices to merchants, particularly those at the Oshodi train track. A sensitization warning took place on May 23, 2023, aiming to discourage them from resuming their previous practices.
“Our warnings were sent out to them (traders) two years ago but they didn’t comply. We served notices at Fagba where some people built shanties, and kiosks from Fagba to Pen Cinema and Isokoko thereby short-changing motorists and pedestrians who should enjoy free movement along that axis,” he said.
