The music industry grieves the loss of Tina Turner, an unparalleled talent who passed away at age 83. The world reflects on her as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”; she bravely shared with her fans her profound struggle with kidney failure.
On International World Kidney Day, Turner opened up about her health journey through a poignant Instagram post. She exposed the severe consequences of neglecting her hypertension diagnosis in 1978 and avoiding conventional medical treatment for high blood pressure, causing irreparable kidney damage.
Tina Turner disclosed, “My kidneys are victims of my not realizing that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine.” Her sincere reflection hinted at the challenges she faced during her final days.
Turner’s journey with hypertension began with a lack of understanding about its implications, revealing that she received no comprehensive explanation about the condition or its effects on the body. Consequently, she suffered a stroke in 2009 and another in 2013, followed by an intestinal cancer diagnosis in 2016, further exacerbating her kidney issues.
In April 2017, Turner underwent a successful kidney transplant, with her husband Erwin Bach graciously donating his kidney. Despite this, she continued to face mild symptoms and occasional hospital admissions. In addition, nausea, dizziness, memory lapses, and persistent fear plagued her, indicating ongoing challenges in her post-transplant recovery.
Determined to regain her health, Turner diligently followed her doctors’ orders, relying on multiple prescriptions and trusting in their therapies. Sadly, she passed away on May 24, 2023, leaving behind a legacy as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, inspiring others to pursue success on their terms and embrace life’s adventure.
