Leicester City manager, Dean Smith, has defended Wilfred Ndidi after the midfielder struggled in the club’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The handball caused by Ndidi resulted in Man City’s second goal which was scored by Erling Haaland.
The referee didn’t initially award a penalty to Man City. However, he changed his decision after he was told to go to the monitor by the Video Assistant Referee, VAR.
The Nigeria international was also at fault for Pep Guardiola’s side’s third goal as Kevin de Bruyne took the ball from him before setting up Erling Haaland.
Man City defeated Leicester City 3-1 in the match.
Speaking on LCF TV, Smith admitted the referee made the right call. He however felt there was little the midfielder could have done about it.
Yes, it’s unfortunate. I mean, Tim (Castagne) is looking to stop the cross. Jack Grealish lifts it, you know, to stand it up at the far post, and Wilf’s lifted his leg to try and stop it as well. And if the ball doesn’t hit his hand, it hits his face. But I would have certainly been claiming that as well if I was their manager”
Leicester City has struggled throughout the season, with the club currently sitting two points from safety despite sacking Brendan Rogers.
Ndidi will hope to redeem himself in the Foxes’ next game against the Wolves on Saturday.
