Nigerian rapper and songwriter Lil Kesh recently shared his journey with mental health, revealing his struggles with anxiety and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In an interview, the former YBNL artist spoke candidly about self-diagnosing ADHD and how it has impacted his life, particularly as a public figure.

I don’t like to identify as ADHD, but I have ADHD. I diagnosed myself, but trust me, I know,” Lil Kesh explained, emphasizing that his condition is deeper than the casual self-labeling many people adopt.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. For Lil Kesh, uncertainty is a significant trigger.

I feel like not knowing, lack of clarity…that’s one thing that can give me anxiety,” he shared. “Once I know what it is that I’m dealing with or what type of emotion I’m actually feeling or what my problem really is, that is half solved.”

The rapper admitted that the pressures of life in the spotlight have exacerbated his condition, combining with personal challenges to create an overwhelming environment.

Lil Kesh is not the only Nigerian celebrity to open up about ADHD and mental health struggles. DJ Cuppy previously revealed her challenges during her time at Oxford University, describing the intense pressure of academic life and its toll on her mental and emotional well-being.

While addressing serious mental health issues, Lil Kesh also shared a lighter and more personal revelation: he is still a virgin. In a heartfelt letter to his future soulmate, the rapper humorously recounted a near-miss encounter with losing his virginity. He attributed his decision to self-control and promised to patiently wait for his future partner.

Lil Kesh has had his share of ups and downs in his career. From his dramatic involvement in the 2016 Headies Awards to his humble beginnings introduced to Olamide through a mutual acquaintance, Victor, the rapper has consistently made headlines.

Despite his challenges, Lil Kesh remains a prominent figure in Nigerian music, and his openness about mental health could inspire more dialogue on the subject.
