Lionel Messi is reportedly in talks over a 320 million pound Saudi Arabia move. The deal would be the most lucrative in the history of the game. It could also once again pit the Argentine against rival Ronaldo. During a recent meeting, Saudi Arabia officials pressed hard for Lionel Messi to join the Saudi Pro League this summer.
According to Telegraph, talks with Messi’s representatives, led by his father Jorge, are underway. The talks are for when the player becomes a free agent at the end of June. This is when his Paris Saint-Germain contract is expected to expire.
There are discussions that the whole package could be worth $400 million annually (£320 million) which would exceed even the £165 million that Cristiano Ronaldo is being paid annually to play in Saudi until the summer of 2025.
Messi is still considering his options and reportedly waiting on more specifics from Barcelona and Inter Miami. However, the Saudi government will likely keep in close contact in the coming months.
The Argentine would like to remain in Europe and play at the highest level as he believes he can still perform as well as he did during the world cup.
