Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that star defender Andy Robertson will undergo surgery for a shoulder injury, leading to an extended period on the sidelines. This unfortunate setback comes just ahead of the highly anticipated Merseyside derby against Everton.

Robertson’s injury occurred during the international break when he was forced to exit the field with his right arm immobilized after a European Championship qualifying match against Spain.

Klopp, speaking at a pre-match press conference, expressed that the decision for surgery was made after consulting with medical experts, ensuring the best long-term outcome for the player. While the exact duration of Robertson’s absence remains uncertain, shoulder injuries often require careful recovery.

The absence of Robertson opens the door for Kostas Tsimikas, affectionately known as ‘the Greek Scouser’ by Liverpool fans. Tsimikas, a dependable understudy to Robertson since 2020, recently signed a new contract, reaffirming the club’s trust in his abilities.

Klopp acknowledged the importance of having trusted backup players and mentioned Joe Gomez, Luke Chambers, and young talents as possible alternatives in Robertson’s absence.

Liverpool fans will be hoping for a swift recovery for Robertson as they prepare to face Everton in the Merseyside derby without one of their key stars.
