Nollywood actress Lola Alao has come out strongly in support of her colleague and friend, Iyabo Ojo, amid growing online backlash against the movie star.
In a video shared online, Lola described Iyabo as a selfless and kind-hearted woman who never hesitates to stand up for others, even when she has her own burdens.
“Iyabo is a kind-hearted person and a cheerful giver. She leaves her problems and fights for yours. Now they’re dragging and lying against her,” Lola said.
The video has stirred conversation online, especially as Iyabo has been under fire in recent days.
Last week, some unidentified men were captured protesting on the streets of Lagos, chanting “E no go better for Iyabo Ojo” in the wake of singer Mohbad’s death. In response, Iyabo clarified on Instagram that she never accused anyone of being responsible for Mohbad’s passing. She also revealed that she has received numerous threats, including a letter sent to her office just days before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania.
Iyabo further explained that these threats have extended to her children and her livelihood, and despite repeatedly reporting them, no meaningful action has been taken by authorities. This isn’t the first time Lola Alao has sung Iyabo Ojo’s praises. Two years ago, she recalled how Iyabo visited her in Canada and supported her fashion business by promoting her clothes. That single act led to an influx of global orders. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Lola publicly appreciated Iyabo, calling her a “blessed child” and a powerful support system.
Other industry colleagues have also echoed Lola’s sentiments.
Actress Ashabi Olorisha praised Iyabo’s good heart, declaring that her kindness would always speak for her and her lineage.
Kiitan Bukola shared how Iyabo gave her a place to stay after her house in Lekki was demolished by the Lagos State government.
Bimbo Success wrote a touching tribute, revealing that Iyabo reached out when she heard her twins were battling a severe cough. Bimbo said Iyabo was visibly upset she hadn’t been told earlier.
