Alexis Mac Allister’s shirt number has been confirmed after the Argentine midfielder swapped Brighton for Liverpool in a £45m deal ahead of the summer window
The officials assigned the number 10 jersey, previously worn by Sadio Mane, to the world cup winner.
Mac Allister’s move to Anfield comes after three-and-a-half successful seasons at Brighton. Following a January 2019 switch from Argentinos Juniors, where he immediately returned on loan for six months until a further temporary stint with Boca Juniors.
In his first interview, he explained the importance of the No. 10 in football.
“I had the possibility to take the No. 8 as well, which is a big number for this club, because of Gerrard of course.
“But I decided on No. 10 because I’ve used it a lot of times. In Argentina, at Brighton, under-23s national team as well.
“It’s a number I really like and that’s why I chose it.”
Mac Allister’s contract runs until the summer of 2028. His Liverpool debut could come on the opening day of the Premier League season in August.
