The Manager of University Engagement is responsible for building and maintaining relationships, developing partnerships, and building coalitions among stakeholders. They oversee the execution of programming and cultural event implementation efforts to engage faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders in initiatives to ensure that the mission of Social Change remains the centre of institutional engagement. Working within the framework of the strategic plan, the Engagement Manager will translate objectives related to community engagement into meaningful and impactful programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead university-wide initiatives that promote service, engagement, and skill-building for volunteerism and systemic social change projects
- Facilitate the connection/mentorship of prospective and current students with graduates/clinical students and provide support and mentorship to changemakers (student, alumni, and staff community)
- Collaborate with leadership in project management and support of local, regional, and global in-person and virtual Service projects for the Walden community
- Assist in developing internal resources, events, and activities that empower and educate global changemakers
- Build community by serving as a connective hub for networking and building bridges between and within changemakers and resources
- Build relationships to increase internal partnerships, collaboration, and awareness of the Center for Social Change by working with leaders on collaborative social change initiatives
- Work collaboratively with others in the University community to foster enhanced relationships between students, faculty, and staff, which builds community, fosters academic progress, and increases retention
- Provide collaborative management and creativity to increase Walden’s presence as an authentic and valuable community resource for social change both locally and globally
- Partner and collaborate with multiple University departments and stakeholders to implement successful cultural moments and social change activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, education, or another related field is required
- A Master’s Degree is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in engagement or outreach management is required
- Previous university relations or related community management/higher education experience is preferred
- Experience using engagement management platforms or integrated student information systems is preferred
- Proven leadership skills particularly in starting new initiatives, launching successful direct marketing/outreach programs, fundraising or membership organizing activities
- General understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion approaches to creating a productive work environment
- Success at building effective community partner relationships that support mutually beneficial social change-related goals
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, database applications, and Internet applications
- Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and due dates
- Flexibility to occasionally travel to support business needs
- Ability to also learn and work with new software systems deployed in support of building the daily operation of the Office of University Relations and Advancement (Office of the President) and the Center’s community partnership network
- Additionally, the ability to effectively communicate with executive leadership
- Furthermore, ability to work occasional weekends and evenings to support events
