Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has candidly shared her struggles with parenting in a heartfelt Instagram post.
The wife of Iroko TV’s boss expressed the ups and downs of motherhood, stating that one moment, she feels confident in her parenting abilities, and the next, she finds herself questioning how they arrived at their current challenges.
Describing parenting as a “real jungle,” Mary emphasized the necessity of expecting the unexpected. She reflected on the unconditional love a mother must have for her children while acknowledging that her kids often test her patience.
One minute it feels like I’m nailing this parenting, and the next, I’m wondering, ‘How did we get here?’ Parenting is a real jungle! Expect the unexpected. Hmmm. The love a mother has for a child has to be agape o! Cos dem dey test me o!” she shared.
Recently, Mary also addressed the stigma surrounding In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) among Nigerian religious women. She encouraged them to include IVF in their testimonies, emphasizing that it can inspire and bless other families.
In a follow-up post, she criticized those who claim that IVF has failed them but that God ultimately provided a miracle. Calling such statements absurd, she stated, “IVF is a miracle, and so is a C-section,” urging people to stop using religion as a barrier to receiving blessings.
Earlier this year, Mary asserted that a mother should not be compelled to change her name if she has underage children, arguing that one cannot build a name over the years only to change it due to divorce issues.
Last year, she advised men on the significance of respecting mothers, pointing out that many want their children to excel but fail to treat their wives with the kindness they deserve. She metaphorically noted that “a fowl can’t raise a tiger,” indirectly telling men that a gentle wife cannot raise children to be fierce.
