Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Remmy Njoku has raised concerns about the tangible benefits of joining Nollywood guilds and associations.
Taking to her Instagram story, the wife of Iroko TV CEO Jason Njoku shared that a budding filmmaker had asked her about the advantages of being part of such organizations. Mary admitted she struggled to provide a clear answer and sought input from her fans and followers.
She wrote:
A budding filmmaker asked me, ‘What are the benefits of being part of Nollywood guilds and associations?’ And I’m struggling to give a clear answer. Can someone help outline the benefits with supporting evidence?”
This isn’t the first time the actress has sparked thought-provoking discussions. In 2023, she posed a significant question to celebrities about life after stardom. Mary emphasized that no one stays at the top forever and asked if celebrities had a solid foundation to fall back on after their fame faded.
Last year, Mary also expressed nostalgia for the days when people resolved conflicts face-to-face. She lamented the rise of “keyboard warriors” who resort to social media drama for sympathy rather than addressing issues directly.
Mary Njoku has consistently used her platform to challenge societal norms. In a message to religious women, she encouraged them to embrace IVF, noting that sharing their experiences could inspire others.
The mother of three also urged Nigerians to strike a balance between spirituality and practicality. She pointed out that despite having numerous churches and mosques, the country still suffers from issues like poor infrastructure, insecurity, and hunger.
In another post, Mary cautioned Nigerians to lower their expectations of religious leaders, reminding them that “Men of God” are still human and capable of making mistakes.
