Stella Maris, the widow of the late veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has made her first public statement since his passing.
Speaking to the press, Stella shared her emotional struggles and gratitude towards the Nollywood industry.
Reflecting on Father’s Day, Stella revealed,
I felt so bad and was shedding tears when I remembered my husband. The Nollywood actors have been supporting me and my children since he passed away. They have been good to us.”

In March, the heartbreaking news of Mr Ibu’s passing was announced. After battling severe health issues for months, the beloved actor succumbed to cardiac arrest, confirmed by the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas. His death left the Nollywood community and fans in deep mourning, as he had been a cherished figure who contributed significantly to the industry.
Last October, Mr Ibu had publicly sought help for his ailment. In response, celebrities like Davido, P-Square, Tunde Ednut, and former senate president Bukola Saraki offered their support. The actor underwent seven successful surgeries and had his leg amputated twice. Despite a brief period of recovery in January, he tragically passed away two months later, leaving a void in the hearts of many.
