Rear Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla was named as the next Chief of Naval Staff on Monday.
Ogalla became the new appointee after President Bola Tinubu fired the Service Chiefs on Monday.
Former Naval Chief, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.
Here are some details concerning the new Chief of Naval Staff that you should be aware of.
1. Ogalla was born in Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area, in Enugu State on December 20, 1968.
2. He received the Sword of Honour medal for being the top naval cadet in his course, graduated with a BSc in mathematics, and is a member of the 39 RC NDA.
3. The navy promoted Ogalla to the rank of Rear Admiral (R Adm) on September 16, 21, 29 years after he was commissioned as a Sublieutenant (S Lt).
4. The senior officer finished the Junior and Senior Staff Courses at AFCSC Jaji on November 1 and July 6, respectively, as well as the STC NNS QUORRA, Basic Hydrography National Hydrographic School India, in May 2000.
5. He took part in NDC Course 22, and on August 14 he received a fdc.
6. Among the ships Ogalla served on were the NNS AMBE, ARADU, LANA, EKUN, AGU, QUORRA, BEECROFT, DELTA, and PATHFINDER.
7. He took part in the ECOMOG Operations in Liberia while on board NNS EKUN in 1996.
8. Ogalle worked as an instructor, CI and Comdt at NNHS, SO 1 Survey and DD Instruments at NNHO, ADCP, DD Hydro and DPR at NHQ, and DS/ DARAS NDC and D Audit at NASS NHQ.
9. The senior officer, who has received the FSS, MSS, DSS, and GSS decorations, is a fellow of the UK’s Occupational Safety and Health Association as well as a member of the Nigerian Hydrographic Society, Nigerian Institute of Management, and International Earth Rotation Services.
10. Mrs. Ijeoma Ogalla married Ogalla, and they have two children.
