Agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested one Asana Leke, 39, on Thursday, September 7, along the Mokwa-Jebba Road with no less than 399 fragments of locally-made explosive devices.
The artefacts and the suspect were then handed over to the military authorities in Niger State. The suspect said that the explosives were given to him at a park in Ibadan, Oyo State, to be conveyed to someone in Kaduna.
NDLEA, states’ commands and other formations maintained the anti-narcotics agency’s battle against drug misuse advocacy campaigns in schools, places of worship, palaces, and local communities among other places, in addition to the different drug control initiatives.
The NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, informed PUNCH Metro of the news on Sunday via an official email.
He also stated that NDLEA agents seized shipments of skunk camouflaged in tomato pastes and methamphetamine hidden in discarded clothing destined for Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
According to Babafemi:
“While the skunk in tomato pastes consignment weighing 20kgs was intercepted on Friday, September 8, at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the meth shipment with a gross weight of 1.60kg was seized at a courier company in Lagos.
“Another consignment of 556 grammes of Canadian Loud sent from Canada to one Tunji Adebayo in Ikorodu, Lagos, was also intercepted by NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, attached to courier firms.
“Though Adebayo was not home when operatives visited his house at 52, Aina Atoloye Street, Ikorodu, he, however, directed his younger brother to sign for the package on his behalf. The brother was promptly arrested.”
Meanwhile, on Monday, September 4, NDLEA officers stormed the enclave of a reputed drug lord in Akala, Mushin, Lagos, Abdul Rauf, dubbed ‘Na God,’ recovering 1,101kgs of Ghanaian Loud and arresting three suspects, while the desired kingpin continues at free.
In Ogun State, a follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of Yinka Azeez on Tuesday, September 5, in Sabo Lafenwa, Abeokuta, following the recovery of 41kgs of cannabis from Titilayo Adetayo at Sagumu Interchange the day before.
September 5 saw at least two suspects, Muhammad Aliyu, 38, and Abdullahi Zakariya, 40, apprehended with about 426.5 kilogrammes of skunk at Zaria-Kano Road and Haye Arewa, Hotoro, Kano, respectively.
While Onyeka Uzor, 25, was apprehended in Idemili, Anambra State, with 64.8kgs of skunk and Tramadol, Destiny Irabor was apprehended on Friday, September 8, with over 180kgs of opiates in his Toyota Sienna bus.
On Wednesday, September 6, two suspects, Ahmed Yusuf and Rilwan Nura, were detained in Kaduna in connection with the recovery of 100 blocks of cannabis weighing 55kgs along the Abuja route.
In Edo State, NDLEA agents attacked the Ekudo woodland in Onwude Local Government Area, destroying 4.236347 hectares of cannabis crops.
