Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has voiced her opinion on the ongoing debate about infidelity as a deal breaker in marriages, joining a growing list of celebrities who believe it shouldn’t necessarily lead to the end of a relationship.
In an interview with her junior colleague Biola Bayo on her show, *Talk to B*, Nwosu shared her perspective, stating that while infidelity is hurtful, it shouldn’t be the sole reason for a woman to leave her partner. For her, the real deal breaker is physical abuse.
Ngozi Nwosu, who recently celebrated her 61st birthday, opened up about a painful chapter in her life, recounting how she canceled her wedding just two days before the ceremony due to her partner’s violent behavior. She revealed that her ex-fiancé had physically assaulted her even while she was pregnant with his child.
I had to choose between my profession and marrying a guy, and I chose my job. He gave me an option, and I chose my job,” Nwosu recounted. “At one point, I regretted that decision, but after that, I was like, ‘Oh wow, thank God I chose my path.’”
She continued,
I didn’t talk about it to the press; this is the first time I am saying it. I left him because of the battery. For me, infidelity, yes, but it isn’t enough for you to let go of your man. But, if it’s battery, I advise any woman to, in fact, not take any of their property and run for your life because they will never stop. Once a man lifts his hand on you, he won’t stop.”
Nwosu’s stance resonates with the opinions of several other celebrities who share similar views on marriage and infidelity. In February, Yetunde Kuti, wife of controversial singer Seun Kuti, stated on TVC’s “Your View” that infidelity isn’t a deal breaker for her. Similarly, Yeni Kuti, Seun’s aunt, expressed that infidelity wouldn’t lead her to leave her marriage, referencing her late father’s polygamous lifestyle.
Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor, also known as Mama G, has echoed this sentiment, revealing that she wouldn’t leave her husband over infidelity. She asserted that the side chick is merely a visitor who must leave, while the wife remains the rightful occupant of the home. Ozokwor went on to detail the steps she would take to maintain her marriage.
Adding to this chorus, Desola Afod, the wife of Yoruba actor Kunle Afod, has also vowed never to leave her husband over infidelity. In an interview, she noted that leaving her husband wouldn’t guarantee that her next partner would be faithful. Desola emphasized that as long as her husband doesn’t physically assault her, there’s no reason to end their marriage, describing him as a good man despite his imperfections.
