Renowned rapper Nicki Minaj finds herself entangled in a legal battle. She has been sued by a West Hollywood jeweller for allegedly refusing to pay for borrowed custom jewellery. It was allegedly damaged under her possession.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the jeweller claims to have loaned several pieces of jewellery to Nicki Minaj through her stylist, Brett Alan Nelson. The jewellery was intended for a public appearance. It had a contract stipulating that the pieces would be returned within a week. Furthermore, any damages incurred would be the responsibility of Brett.
However, it is alleged that Nicki’s stylist failed to meet the agreed-upon deadline and returned 66 pieces of jewellery late. Upon examination, the jeweller discovered noticeable damage to a set of earrings and a leaf ring.
Nicki Minaj’s attorney, Jordan Siev, responded to the lawsuit by stating-
We have not been presented with any evidence that any of the jewellry at issue was damaged by Nicki. This lawsuit appears to be nothing more than an ordinary insurance claim by the jeweller designed to generate publicity for itself and extract a payment to which it is not entitled. We will defend the lawsuit vigorously.”
Sources close to Nicki insist that all the borrowed jewellery was returned on time as promised. They said that any complaints about missing stones only arose after the items were in the jeweller’s possession for some time.
The jeweller, Roseark, also claims to have sent invoices to Brett for the damages, totalling $26,239.50 plus interest. Despite repeated attempts to collect a payment, the store alleges that they have not received any payment from Nicki or her stylist. Nicki Minaj had no direct dealings with the jeweller. However, Roseark is pursuing legal action against both Nicki and her stylist in an attempt to recover the owed amount.
Nonetheless, the legal proceedings will determine the outcome of this contentious situation and its impact on Nicki Minaj’s reputation.
