Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved a monthly salary of N80,000 for casual hospital workers across the state in response to complaints from casual employees at the Minna General Hospital.

These workers had expressed dissatisfaction over their employment status, which led to a meeting with the governor.

During the meeting, Bago addressed the concerns of the aggrieved casual workers, who had reported being short-changed in a recent conversion exercise initiated by his administration.

Governor Bago stated that the new salary structure was introduced to ensure that casual workers are compensated in accordance with the state’s approved minimum wage.

While addressing the workers’ concerns, Bago acknowledged that it would not be feasible to absorb all casual workers into the state civil service. However, he outlined a plan for those who meet specific criteria.

Casual workers with degree qualifications who have served between 10 and 15 years will be given automatic appointments. For workers holding diploma certificates, they will be appointed on probation, with the expectation that they upgrade their qualifications within three years.
